HSP Turns 40 This Year!

Can you guess how many years have passed since Health, Society & Policy (HSP); formerly Behavioral Science & Health (BSH), was approved as a bachelor’s program in the College of Social and Behavioral Science at the University of Utah? It may be more than you think. Some may find it surprising that HSP is turning 40 this year! To celebrate HSP’s 40th birthday, all HSP students and HSP/BSH alumni were invited to a birthday party on campus in April. Graduating seniors spent their capstone semester exploring different policies related to health care in the United States. Their final research posters were presented at the celebration.

As of spring 2017, there have been 2,391graduates from the BSH/HSP program, with the first BSH degree awarded in 1981. HSP is enjoying record high enrollment in recent years, seeing a 30-50 percent increase since 2014. In spring 2017, we graduated 72 students. Currently, we have a total of 249 declared majors.
